Cardstock FAQ

Here are some common questions and concerns that people have about cardstock and cardstock samplers.

  • Why don't you include Basic Brown paper in your products?
  • Why aren't the samplers laminated so that they'll last longer?
  • Why don't you bleach and Versamark each color?
  • Why doesn't the cardstock match the ink/marker etc?
  • Where are those oily looking stains coming from?

Why don't you include Basic Brown paper in your products?

Basic Brown is not included because it is NOT a cardstock color, it is only a classic pad (please check the catalog).

Why aren't the samplers laminated so that they'll last longer?
The papers are not laminated so that the true color can be viewed and so that you can feel the quality and weight of the paper.  The Goose has found that customers really care about the feel and weight of the paper, as well as the true color.  The lamination will modify all of these properties of the paper.  This could lead to unhappy customers.  The Goose's samplers are not expensive...just replace them when they wear out (approximately once every year or two, depending on usage).  You'll probably want to replace it anyway due to new paper dye lots, new neutrals etc!

Why don't you bleach and Versamark each color?
Many other sampler makers do bleach and Versamark each card.  The Goose does not do this for several reasons.  One, the paper is manufactured by many different manufacturers.  Therefore, the Goose may bleach Taken With Teal and reveal a beautiful Barely Banana.  But YOUR customer may bleach her Taken With Teal to reveal a Mint Melody, a Not Quite Navy or maybe a "mystery color".  The results are really unpredictable from package of paper to package of paper (unless you're fortunate enough to receive many packages from one "dye lot").  If the Goose bleached the samples, this could be misleading to your customers.

Second, through practical experience, the Goose is disappointed to learn that the watermark effect of Versamark fades over time (and we're talking less than 1 year).  So once again, The Goose's result, may not be the same as what your customers may experience for themselves.

The Goose would prefer not to mislead anyone and therefore does not bleach or versamark any of these cards.  Honestly...we'd love to bleach and versamark each piece of cardstock and charge you $20!  But we philosophically believe that this would be taking your money for very little value.  Plus, we also feel that many people want inexpensive samplers to give away to their downline or customers.   If you're buying many $20 samplers to give to your customers, we'd like to join your customer base!

Why doesn't the cardstock match the ink/marker etc?
The Goose buys official products from our favorite stamp company direct through that company.  While everyone would love to believe that the inks, cardstocks, markers etc all "match", they don't.  They "coordinate" (in Stampin Up terms...).  The Goose feels that the variations you see in the charts matches your customer's potential experience.  So any differences you notice will be differences similar to what your customers will notice if they buy the same product.  Be aware that dye lots change and ink colors, paper colors etc may vary slightly.  This is a very disturbing situation, but since the Goose does not manufacture these products, the Goose has no control over the problem.  The only thing the Goose can tell you is that at one point in time, these were all official colors obtained through our favorite stamp company.  We buy cardstock every 2 months.  This is as close as it gets to "new colors".

Where are those oily looking stains coming from?

We Geese would like to assure you that ALL feathers are washed and dried prior to handling your cardstock.  Whenever accidents have happened, the geese have IMMEDIATELY replaced the damaged card with a new, fresh one!

However, it is with great sadness that the quality control geese have noted that several sheets of cardstock have ARRIVED at the nest with oily stains (like it's been handled with lotion laden hands).  In some cases, the "oily" stains appear to be an imperfection in the manufacture of the paper itself.   When this occurs, the geese have to use this paper.  The Goose has struggled with issues like these as well as mismatched colors, changed colors etc (see the FAQ above).  The final conclusion is...the geese provide you with TRUE samplers of what your customers may receive from our favorite stamp company.  Unfortunately, such oily imperfections are representative of the product that our favorite stamp company provides.
